All the details here 👇Building a custom mantel doesn't have to be complicated! Here's how I made mine using (2) 2x8s and (1) 2x6 from @homedepot: 1. Cut the boards: I beveled one edge of each 2x8 at 45° and both edges of the 2x6. Then, I cut them all to 72" with beveled ends. For the side pieces, I cut (2) 7¼" pieces from the 2x6, with one side beveled at 45°. 2. Assemble the mantel: Using tape to hold the pieces together, I added blocking, @titebondproducts wood glue, and secured it with 2" 18
