⚾️On April 17, 1951 Mickey Mantle, batting third in New York’s lineup, grounds out to 2nd base in his first major league at-bat. The 19 year-old Mantle will hit a 6th-inning run-scoring single, going 1 for 4 in the Yankees' Opening Day 5-0 victory over Boston at Yankee Stadium. Mantle's salary for the 1951 season was $7,500. Yankees manager Casey Stengel said of Mantle, "He's got more natural power from both sides than anybody I ever saw." Mickey hit .267 with 13 home runs and 65 RBI in 96 games
