THE RED SHOES (1948) features an unforgettable, hallucinatory central dance sequence that was filmed unlike anything audiences had ever seen. Painter-made-art-director Hein Heckroth hand painted over a hundred frames to create a storyboard that was then turned almost exactly into the 16-minute sequence.
