Government could save £2bn by bringing back face-to-face PIP assessments. Ministers say they're doing that, but the numbers tell a different story. So do the empty assessment centres. Time to get a grip of the benefits bill.

Last night the @Conservatives stood with hardworking taxpayers. Lifting the two-child cap is unfair, unaffordable and it won’t lift children out of poverty. We need more jobs, better wages and stronger growth...not endless handouts.

Pensions aren’t piggy banks for governments to raid. But this Labour government is desperate.Today they forced through the power to control where your pension savings are invested. @Conservatives voted against it - and we'll do so again in the Lords next week.

Rachel Reeves wanted unfettered control over where your pension is invested. We cut her power grab off at the knees and forced another U-turn.Mandation is a vestige of its former self. But @conservatives know it's wrong in principle. Pensions belong to savers, not ministers.

Labour is one step closer to controlling where your pension gets invested. They've failed to make welfare savings and are desperate for cash. Your pension is just too tempting.Today they forced through mandation - but next week @Conservatives will vote to take it out again.

We need a government that backs work, not taxes it. A smart Chancellor would know that more tax rises aren't the answer. Britain needs a strong economy - and only the @Conservatives can deliver that. #bbcqt

Size alone does not equal success - this rule stretches beyond pensions…#TottenhamHotspurThe Pensions Bill - as it was drafted - assumed schemes performing well would inevitably achieve scale. But it’s not that simple - I set out why in Parliament last night. I’m pleased the Pensions Minister conceded and has now put member outcomes front and centre, so that returns – not just scale – will count.

The Chair of South East Water has resigned. Next to go should be the Chief Executive. The select committee report is damning - rightly - not least the statement that SE Water failed in the most basic function of a water company: delivering water.

We need a Prime Minister who’s strong on the world stage – but Keir Starmer is weak. Handing over a crucial military base along with billions of taxpayers’ money is not defending British interests. No wonder he cowered in Parliament today instead of talking to Trump in Davos. | Helen Whately MP

Reeves can’t wriggle out of this one. Her decisions have cost everyone, and she should own them. More taxes this Autumn aren’t the answer. She should stop spending beyond our means and back businesses and growth. We’ve set out our plan. She should copy that. | Helen Whately MP

Yesterday I got the shocking news that Faversham Cottage Hospital was to close today. The NHS has told me that it’s temporary but they won’t tell me definitely when the hospital will reopen. There’s been no warning or local consultation about the closure of this important community facility. On Question Time earlier this month, I was clear that Labour’s housing approach is wrong. Building on our countryside is not the answer to the housing problem. There are plans for over 20,000 new houses in Faversham and Mid Kent. It’ll change our corner of Kent forever. They should go where jobs and infrastructure already exist, rather than tarmacking over agricultural land and overwhelming local infrastructure. It’s not fair to reduce London’s housing targets whilst increasing Kent’s. Follow me

This #NationalApprenticeshipsWeek I spoke to Claire & Tom from Shepherd Neame 's Brewery in Faversham. Uni degrees are no longer a golden ticket to a job - 700,000 grads are on benefits instead of in work. Apprenticeships give you experience from day 1, support from your employer & you earn while you learn – instead of racking up debt. That's why Conservatives would scrap debt-trap degrees that don't deliver and double apprenticeships. | Helen Whately MP
