Since 2020, our volunteers have been fabricating and installing three-quarter size replica Milwaukee Road style station signs at their historic locations along the Palouse to Cascades State Park Trail.

This archive web site is one of the ways in which we work to make the history of the Milwaukee Road in Washington available for people to discover, to help them understand the social, economic, and technological importance of the railroad in the state.

Our goal is to preserve the site of the Milwaukee Road rail yard in South Cle Elum and to tell the story of the Milwaukee’s electrification and route through Washington and the Cascade mountains. The site is dedicated to the interpretation and preservation of the history of the Milwaukee Road’s western extension and electrification.

Come visit us in South Cle Elum to see some important remnants of Milwaukee Road history. The exhibit area in the depot is typically open from noon to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays from May through September.

Jan 10, 2022 · Each year, a group of horse riders known as the John Wayne Pioneer Wagons & Riders do a cross state ride, on the Milwaukee Road right of way across Washington State, now the Palouse to Cascades State Park Trail.

Jun 5, 2020 · Our virtual tour of the Milwaukee Road takes us along Pine Creek and into the valley it carved out through the Palouse. From Malden it takes us northward into a big loop, even briefly entering Spokane County, before heading south into Rosalia.

Jun 6, 2020 · Our virtual tour on the Milwaukee Road takes us further east into the scenic Palouse countryside to Tekoa and its towering trestle. We pass through hills, traverse a sweeping curve, cross a short but impressive steel bridge at an old country road crossing, pass a classic grain elevator, and arrive in the community of Tekoa.

Oct 7, 2017 · The 5057 was one of 12 General Electric U25B locomotives purchased by the Milwaukee Road in 1965. They were initially assigned to the railroad’s most important freight trains between Chicago and Tacoma.

May 29, 2020 · Our Milwaukee Road Coast Division virtual tour across Washington continues as we travel from Warden to Lind. The landscape changes as we move east, leaving the irrigated croplands of the Columbia Basin Project and entering the Channeled Scablands.
