The inspector general of the US Department of Defense has launched an investigation into Pete Hegseth's use of the Signal application to message other top-level officials about military strikes on Houthi rebels in Yemen.

The Pentagon’s internal watchdog notified the defense secretary of a probe into whether he shared classified information last month in a Signal group chat that included a journalist.

The use of the Signal messaging app by top Trump officials came to light after The Atlantic's editor was added to a group chat about planned Houthi strikes.
