Just hours after Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani declared victory in New York's mayoral primary on Wednesday, a small group of business leaders convened with Mayor Eric Adams, who bypassed the Democratic primary and is instead running in the general election as an independent.

The winner of the Democratic primary will face Adams, Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa, and independent candidate Jim Walden come November, but is likely to become the next leader of the city, which has selected a Democrat in the past three mayoral elections. Polls are open in the city until 9 p.m.
