Southerly winds are expected to increase through Sunday morning, peaking late morning to early afternoon with gusts of 50-60mph (80-95 kmh), and perhaps as much as 70mph (112kmh) on the exposed Irish Sea coastline and some other areas of high ground.

The wind warning reads: “Southerly to southwesterly winds are expected to increase through Sunday morning, peaking late morning to early afternoon with gusts of 50-60mph, and perhaps as much as 70mph in exposed spots along Irish Sea coastlines.”

In Northern Ireland, meanwhile, all six counties will be affected by a Status Yellow wind warning that had been issued by the Met Office on Thursday. It will come into effect at 3am on Sunday morning and remain in place until 3pm on Sunday afternoon, with “some disruption” expected as a result.

A weather warning for wind is now in force across parts of Northern Ireland and there has been disruption to travel with roads closed due to fallen trees and some flights cancelled.

Our weather may have had more of a feel of spring about it over the last few days, but wind and rain has still featured for some. On Friday, while the likes of Hull, Thetford and Nairn hit 17 Celsius (63F) many western areas were lashed with gales and rain at times.
