Marvel Rivals landed with a wide roster, boasting 33 heroes when it launched on December 5. Just over a month later, the hero shooter's received two additions to its lineup, thanks to the arrival of Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman with the advent of Season 1.

Marvel Rivals Game Director Guangyun Chen recently revealed that NetEase Games has no intention of introducing role queue in the game.

Game director Guangyun Chen revealed the plans in a recent interview with Metro. He said that “fresh seasonal stories, new maps, and new heroes” are on the way, with each new season broken into “two halves”. In “each half of the season, we will introduce a new hero,” he continued.

The free-to-play Marvel Rivals launched in early December with its full lineup available to all players, and it quickly found success. Season 1 began on 10th January 2025, adding Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman to the playable roster, as well as a new map, events, and more.

The first Dracula-themed season of Marvel Rivals has kicked off and will see the Fantastic Four added to the game. Two members of Marvel's first family, Mister Fantastic and Susan "The Invisible Woman" Storm, are already available, and the Human Torch and The Thing will join them at a later date.

Game director Guangyun Chen says "we just eventually want to continue to enhance the experience, and, you know, keep everyone excited in our community"

NetEase has confirmed Marvel Rivals will receive a new hero every month and a half, but won't be adding enforced roles. Speaking to Metro, game director Guangyun Chen was asked about the cadence of heroes joining the game.

Marvel Rivals is in a very healthy state right now. The game is absolutely dominating with its player count. Overwatch 2 clearly isn't king anymore, with Blizzard facing legitimate competition for the first time in forever.
