The Pistons, with a young core led by Cade Cunningham making its playoff debut, acquitted themselves well most of the night before the stunning collapse. It was the Pistons’ first postseason game since 2019 and their NBA-record playoff losing streak was extended to 15 games dating back to 2008.

The Detroit Pistons were a little more than nine minutes from ending the longest postseason losing streak in NBA history, playing with poise for three quarters.

Detroit came into the fourth quarter holding an eight-point lead. However, back-to-back turnovers at the start of the period started the Knicks' comeback. The Pistons' mishaps led to the Knicks outscoring the Pistons 15-7 at the beginning of the period.
