Google Maps reclassifies the United States as a "sensitive country" after changing the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.

Google on Monday said it would change its maps to feature the Gulf of America and Mount McKinley—but those weren't the only labels to apparently change. CNBC reports it has learned that the US was also switched from a "non-sensitive" country to a sensitive one within Google's maps division.

Google’s maps division has reclassified the United States as a “sensitive country,” a designation it typically applies to nations with strict governments or border disputes, CNBC reported on Monday. The change follows an executive order by President Donald Trump directing updates to official maps and federal communications,
