GORHAM, N.H. — The Mt. Washington Auto Road opened for daily operations on Saturday, two weeks ahead of schedule. It is the 163rd season for the auto road, which first opened in 1861.

Crews worked Wednesday to clear snow from the Mt. Washington Auto Road. Photos and videos show the crew clearing the road at around 5,500 feet. They were only able to make it six miles up the road.

The Mt. Washington Auto Road bills itself as the "oldest man-made tourist attraction in North America." It was first opened in 1861, with a horse-drawn carriage making the first trip to the summit.

Crews with the Mt. Washington Auto Road were out plowing the road Friday afternoon. According to their website, the road is open Saturday to the winter cut off but closed for motorcycles.
