Ukraine's parliament appointed the country's first new prime minister in five years on Thursday, part of a major cabinet overhaul aimed at revitalising wartime management as prospects for peace with Russia grow dim.

The Ukrainian Parliament, Verkhovna Rada, has officially appointed Yulia Svyrydenko as Ukraine's new Prime Minister. The decision was supported by 262 MPs. Svyrydenko becomes only the second woman in Ukraine's history to lead the Cabinet of Ministers,

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Ukraine plans to boost domestic arms production to meet half its military's needs within six months.

What we need is greater capacity to push the war back onto Russia’s territory — back to where the war was brought from," Zelenskyy said.

In June, Russia's Defense Ministry reported downing a total of 2,368 Ukrainian drones, with an average of almost 79 drones per day across the month. Thus far in July, the Defense Ministry said it has downed 1,516 Ukrainian drones, with a daily average of 89 drones.

Russia has launched overnight attacks on four Ukrainian cities, injuring at least 15 people and targeting energy infrastructure.

Trump asked Ukraine's Zelensky earlier this month if he could strike Moscow and other Russian targets, the Financial Times reported.
