The IndiGo flight crew initially sought permission to divert to Pakistan's airspace but were denied. They subsequently navigated toward Srinagar while managing significant technical alerts and manual flying due to challenging conditions with the help of the IAF.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said on Friday that the IndiGo flight 6E 2142’s crew had requested the Northern Area Control Centre (NACC) for permission to deviate towards the international border,

At one point during the flight, DGCA stated that the plane entered a steep and rapid descent of 8,500 feet per minute.
