The death toll from a major explosion in Iran's most important container port of Bandar Abbas rose to at least 70, with over 1,200 injured, state media said on Monday, as firefighters battled a blaze that Iranian officials said was now under control 48 hours after the start of the fire.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The death toll from a huge explosion that rocked one of Iran’s main ports rose Monday to 46 people killed, authorities said. Iranian state television offered the toll from the blast at Shahid Rajaei port near Bandar Abbas, citing local officials.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Iran said Monday that the fire at a southern port rocked by explosion finally was extinguished as the death toll in the incident rose to at least 65 people killed. Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni announced the fire had been put out, while Hormozgan Gov. Mohammad Ashouri Taziani gave the death toll.
