South African fast bowler Anrich Nortje has been ruled out of the upcoming Champions Trophy and the rest of the SA20, due to a back injury. Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed the news on Wednesday. Nortje's injury was revealed after he underwent scans on Monday afternoon.

South Africa’s Anrich Nortje has been ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy with a back injury, the latest in a long line of setbacks for the fast bowler.

Though South Africa are yet to name a replacement for injured pacer Anrich Nortje, Gerald Coetzee is believed to be the likely candidate as he was in a direct shoot-out with the 31-year-old for a spot in the Proteas attack.

South Africa batter Rassie van der Dussen hurt the ring finger of his right hand while fielding in the match against Paarl Royals in the ongoing SA20. Later, he was spotted using an ice pack on the injured spot.

Rob Walter’s remark that Anrich Nortjé was “bowling really quickly” at a camp before the Pakistan series is the main reason why he made the Proteas Champions Trophy squad.

Nortje has not played for South Africa since last year's T20 World Cup final, in which they were beaten by India in Bridgetown.

The 31-year-olds steady variation, bounce and pace have been pivotal in South Africas pace unit in the white-ball format, proven by his 36 wickets in 22 ODIs and 53 wickets in 42 T20Is.

Anrich Nortje was initially named in the South African squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Cricket South Africa is yet to name a replacement for Nortje.
