‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Review — No Steve Rogers
Captain America: Brave New World isn’t the best or the worst MCU film. It has some genuinely fun action scenes. There’s a good political thriller buried in the overstuffed plot. Anthony Mackie did a really great job as Captain America, and as someone who is generally not a huge fan of Mackie, I’m happy to report that he really grew on me here.
Does Captain America: The First Avenger still hold up?
Another reason The First Avenger stands out from the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that, even though it ends by reminding us that Steve has awoken in the modern day, its final note is melancholic instead of triumphant. After Steve sacrifices himself and buries the Tesseract along with him, he wakes up 70 years later in an alien world.
Captain America became a household name over the past decade, but he has a history that stretches back before that.
