Red Wings' young players progressing during team’s rise
Young players are contributing during the Detroit Red Wings’ rise under coach Todd McLellan. It’s also a positive sign for the future. Developing in a winning environment is a win-win situation.
Johansson has averaged 17:10 and posted an even plus-minus rating in 10 games under McLellan and assistant Trent Yawney, who coaches the defense. Prior to that, he averaged 13:02 and posted a minus-6 rating in 17 games while being shuffled in and out of the lineup.
Dylan Larkin had a goal and an assist in his 700th career game to lead the Detroit Red Wings past the Montreal Canadiens, 4-2, ending a losing streak.
That ended the Red Wings' seven-game winning streak that began Dec. 29, halting the progress the Wings (20-19-4) had made in climbing closer to the Eastern Conference playoff picture.
