Emergency Management Minister Kristy McBain has outlined the ongoing efforts to address the impacts of heavy rainfall and flooding that have inundated large areas from the Mid-North Coast through to the Hunter and Central Coast regions.
Four people have died and several were missing as major flooding in New South Wales (NSW) left about 50,000 people isolated by floodwaters. The record rainfall, now declared a natural disaster, has been caused by a slow-moving area of low pressure and is greater than any in living memory for some residents, according to local authorities.

May 23 (UPI) -- A cow was found alive on an Australian beach after being carried up to 11 miles by floodwaters. Layla Philipson found the cow alive on the sand on Old Bar beach, on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales. The cow was one of multiple bovines swept away by floodwaters brought on by torrential rains in New South Wales.
Extreme weather conditions are lashing the NSW north coast, with 50,000 currently isolated due to floods, one person confirmed dead and three others currently missing.
