Vance Boelter, 57, has been charged in the shootings of two Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses. The Hennepin County Attorney said Monday that her office intends to pursue first-degree murder charges against him as well.
Federal authorities have now charged Boelter in connection with the attacks The suspect accused of killing a Minnesota lawmaker and injuring another early on the morning of Saturday, June 14 allegedly went to the homes of four different state lawmakers.
Vance Luther Boelter, 57, opened fire on Mark Hortman as police pulled up, then exchanged gunfire and fled, investigators said.
Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband were killed, and state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife were wounded in politically motivated shootings early Saturday, Gov. Tim Walz said. Authorities have also identified a suspect who is still at large.
John Hoffman and his wife were also shot multiple times at their Champlin home early Saturday. Both underwent surgery and are expected to survive. Boelter is also charged with attempted murder in that shooting.
