The Belgian Grand Prix has signed a new six-year deal with Formula 1, but will only be in the calendar in four out of those six seasons.

The deal means the fixture at Spa-Francorchamps – which is among the most recognisable in F1 – will be omitted from the schedule in 2028 and 2030.

Formula One has announced a new six-year extension with the Belgian Grand Prix on a rotational basis. Doubts have surrounded the future of F1 at Spa, but the historic race, which started in 1925, will now return in four of the next season seasons.

Formula 1 has confirmed that the historic Belgian Grand Prix will stop being an annual race in 2027. Under a new deal announced today, Spa will host races in the next three seasons and then begin a period of rotation with other European dates.

The Belgian Grand Prix will appear on the F1 calendar for four of the next six seasons after 2025, taking place in 2026, 2027, 2029 and 2031. It marks a first step from F1 to introduce circuit rotation to its calendar amid sizable demand from countries around the world to host a grand prix.

It was on the inaugural Formula 1 calendar in 1950, one of four races from that first season still run as an F1 event at its original track. On Wednesday, F1 announced that it has committed to keeping that tradition going through 2031,

The Belgian Grand Prix is one of the best racing events on Earth. In spite of that, Formula 1 is demoting the Spa race to part-time status.

The historic Belgian Grand Prix held at the renowned Spa-Francorchamps circuit, has secured a significant new contract with Formula 1 and will remain a fixture on the F1 calendar for four out of the six years spanning from 2026 to 2031.
