During Wednesday's total solar eclipse, NASA's WB-57 high-altitude aircraft will take high-resolution images for researchers to study.

A partial solar eclipse and the Perseid meteor shower will be visible over Massachusetts today.

Health and space experts are warning that even a brief glance at the event without proper protection could cause permanent damage.

Anchorage was one of the first major U.S. cities to experience it. Around 8:21 a.m. local time, the moon covered as much as 28 percent of the sun. A few minutes later, Fairbanks, Alaska, experienced a 35 percent eclipse, enough to make the sun resemble a crescent moon.

Up to 96% of the Sun will be covered by the Moon in the UK, while parts of Spain, Greenland, Iceland, Portugal and Russia will see a total eclipse.

A total solar eclipse will be seen by some across the globe on Wednesday, Aug. 12. In parts of the U.S., many will be able to see a partial eclipse.

Some people will get a bird's-eye view of Wednesday's solar eclipse from aboard special flights.

Astronomer Mike Frost, from Coventry, will see the eclipse from Scoresby Sund in Greenland.
