Amazon has requested more time to launch 3,200 satellites. In a new FCC filing, SpaceX argues Amazon is trying to get 'special treatment.'
Amazon has purchased an additional 10 Falcon 9 launches from SpaceX as part of its efforts to accelerate deployment of its broadband constellation.
The company needs to bring more of its satellites online so it can begin offering an internet-from-space service that was recently rebranded as Amazon Leo.
“Amazon Leo is engaged in full-scale deployment and stands on the doorstep of offering US customers a competitive and innovative new service,” the company wrote in the filing. “An extension would enable this rapid and ongoing deployment to continue, while strict enforcement would interrupt or halt this effort.”
Amazon says it's been harder than expected to secure rides for its Amazon Leo internet satellites, and now it's asking the FCC for more time.
Blue Origin is looking to send the first of TeraWave's 5,408 satellites into space in the fourth quarter of 2027.
