It didn’t happen as lefty Max Fried and three relievers shut out the Guardians, 4-0, at Yankee Stadium. Fried (8-1, 1.78) threw six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. This was a case of answering one shutout with another. The Guardians blanked the Yankees, 4-0, on Wednesday night.

Yankees starter Clarke Schmidt allowed three first-inning runs and nothing else in his 5 2/3-inning outing. He struck out eight.

The Yankees were shut out for just the second time this year on Tuesday night, but there were a handful of positives.

The Guardians surprised the Yankees 4-0 in the middle game Wednesday night, as RHP Luis Ortiz baffled New York with 5 2/3 scoreless innings with 7 strikeouts on 92 pitches, while the bullpen took over and tossed 3 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball with just 2 hits and no walks on 46 pitches.

It's Thursday, June 5, and the Guardians (33-27) are in the Bronx to take on the Yankees (37-23). Slade Cecconi is slated to take the mound for Cleveland against Max Fried for New York. The AL East-leading Yankees are hoping to bounce back from yesterday's shutout loss.

Friday: Guardians open a three-game series against Houston at Progressive Field. LHP Logan Allen (3-3, 4.22) will start for the Guards, while LHP Colton Gordon (0-1, 5.94) will start for Houston at 7:10 p.m. CLEGuardians.TV, WKYC Ch. 3, WTAM 1100 AM, WMMS 100.7 FM, WARF and the Guardians radio network will carry the game.
