Born in Los Angeles in 1959, the actor welcomed his eldest child, daughter Mercedes, in 1991 with his then-wife, Joanne Whalley. The couple split shortly after they welcomed their son, Jack, in 1995. Their divorce was finalized the following year.

Kilmer was close to his daughter and son, Jack, 29. Despite splitting with Whalley after seven years of marriage in 1995, the “Batman” star remained a constant in his children’s lives. “I can’t be a responsible parent and only be there three or four months a year,” Kilmer told Vanity Fair in 2012.

Val Kilmer, who passed away on Tuesday, 1 April, has two children, Mercedes Kilmer and Jack Kilmer. In a statement released to The New York Times, his daughter confirmed that the legendary actor died from complications of pneumonia.
