Penn State interim head coach Terry Smith is reportedly garnering support for a promotion. According to Pete Nakos of On3.com, "top-level Penn State donors are pushing" for athletic director Pat Kraft to promote Smith to the full-time head coaching position.

Terry Smith, who has served as interim coach since Oct. 12, will coach Penn State in the game. He has agreed to remain on the staff under new coach Matt Campbell, who will be introduced Monday. Clemson, Duke, Louisville and Pitt are among the possible opponents from the ACC.

Nearly two months after firing James Franklin, Penn State's coaching search has evolved into one of the most chaotic hiring processes in program history. During that time, the landscape has shifted dramatically.

When asked about if he's received clarification on his future at Penn State, interim head coach Terry Smith said he "came in with a lot of energy" the prior week when talking about his desires to stay the Nittany Lions' coach. Otherwise, he declined to specify if he's had conversations with the school.
