No. 3 Georgia has solidified its position for a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff and beaten Alabama in the Southeastern Conference championship game for the first time.

The Georgia Bulldogs earned their second consecutive SEC Championship this evening as they handled the Alabama Crimson Tide in a 28-7 victory. The win avenged a loss to the Crimson Tide earlier this regular season.

The largest margin of victory in an SEC title game is 39. The mark was set by Auburn, who downed South Carolina, 56-17 in the 2010 iteration of the competition. The committee moved Alabama up one spot to No. 9 in its latest rankings after the Tide beat Auburn to qualify for the SEC title game. They play Georgia on Saturday.
