Regeneron to buy bankrupt 23andMe, vows ethical use of customer DNA data
Regeneron Pharmaceuticals said on Monday it will buy genomics firm 23andMe Holding for $256 million through a bankruptcy auction, and promised to prioritize the ethical use of DNA data from customers using ancestry testing and other services.

The move marks a turning point in 23andMe’s tumultuous decline. Founded in 2006 by Wojcicki, the company initially gained traction with its saliva-based ancestry kits and went public in 2021. By the end of that year, its valuation peaked at $6 billion.
