Philip Rivers' shocking return to the Indianapolis Colts has left the NFL world nostalgic, including Cam Newton, who's been waiting on a similar call from a quarterback-needy team.

Indianapolis looked lifeless after their loss Sunday but Rivers' return seems to have reenergized the locker room. At least for now.

The extended time in retirement, Rivers' age and the quick ramp-up period raise questions about whether the former Colts and Chargers standout would be proficient in leading an offense in 2025. Indianapolis is desperate to find out after Daniel Jones suffered a season-ending Achilles injury, and Rivers has something to prove to himself.

Gronkowski recently spoke with Tom Pelissero and Judy Battista on NFL Network’s “The Insiders.” He was asked if he would consider returning to the Patriots if team owner Robert Kraft asked him to. The five-time Pro Bowler said that he would be open to the same, but only if it’s for the practice squad.

Back in 2022, the 49ers had a quarterback injury situation not unlike what the Colts face now. First, Trey Lance went down in Week 2, and Jimmy Garoppolo returned once again as the starting quarterback. Then he broke his foot in Week 13, opening the door for Brock Purdy.
