Residents in New Jersey might catch a glimpse of the northern lights Wednesday night as solar storms create the perfect conditions.

A red glow in Cumberland County, New Jersey on Tuesday night was due to the northern lights, also known as the aurora borealis. The phenomenon in the night sky is due to a strong geomagnetic storm hitting Earth's magnetic field.
