UXBRIDGE – A procession with the body of Police Officer Stephen LaPorta will arrive at the police station in the late morning of Friday, Jan. 9. The escort will begin at the medical examiner's office in Westfield. It is due to arrive at the Uxbridge station about 11 a.m.

An Uxbridge police officer was fatally injured in a crash while going to help a stranded motorist on Route 146 in the Worcester County town, the department said. The officer went to help the motorist around 12:40 a.m. when the crash occurred, Uxbridge’s police chief, Marc Montminy, said in a statement.
